BROOKLYN, N.Y. - November 27, 2018 - The Pratt Institute women's basketball team fell to Purchase State, 57-35, on Tuesday evening at the Pratt ARC.
With the loss, the Cannoneers fall to 1-2 on the season as the black and yellow were limited to just 12-for-60 (20.0%) shooting on the evening, while the Panthers were 37.1 percent, going 23-for-62 from the field. Purchase hosted a 50-40 advantage on the glass over 40 minutes of play, while it also owned a 28-12 advantage in the paint.
Pratt was led by Amissa Epperson (Jersey City, N.J.) who notched a team-high 15 points on the evening, including eight in the second half, while Kinako Miyake (San Mateo, Cali.) poured in 12 points to go with a season-best seven rebounds in the setback. Purchase was led by 16 points from Amber Jones to go along with 10 points from Amber Yarter.
Purchase jumped out to a 7-0 lead before Epperson made a layup with 5:50 to play in the first quarter. The Panthers responded with two more baskets to take a 11-2 lead after 10 minutes of play.
In the first few minutes of play in the second frame, Miyake hit a three, and Epperson scored again in the paint to cut the lead to 14-8, but it was quickly answered by a Purchase 9-0 run, before Emily Guerra (Babylon, N.Y.) scored a layup with 3:43 remaining in the half to bring the Cannoneers back within 15. With under 20 seconds left in the 2nd quarter, Epperson drew a foul and made a free throw, sending the Panthers into the halftime break with a 29-13 advantage.
Pratt started the third quarter with a 5-2 run, punctuated by a finish from Epperson, to close the gap to 31-18 with 8:06 left in the third quarter before a Purchase jump shot forced a 42-21 advantage with 3:20 on the clock. It was all Panthers from there, as they sealed the 57-35 victory.
Up Next: Pratt Institute will resume play on Thursday, November 29 and will take on host King's College (NY) at the Hill Center at St. Joseph's College at 6:15 p.m.
