BROOKLYN –The Pratt Institute Cannoneers swept the Steels of the Culinary Institute of America 3-0 (25-13, 25-21, 25-18) on Saturday afternoon. Thirteen service aces helped seal the victory.
Pratt's Albi Marke did a little bit of everything for the Cannoneers, registering eight kills, nine digs, and a game-high six aces. Fellow outside hitter Dean Liaw compiled a double-double of 11 digs and 11 kills, while Kristopher Patton assisted on 18 Pratt points.
In game one, Pratt would control play from the onset – racing out to a 13-2 lead – highlighted by a trio of Liaw kills. Aces down the stretch from Marke and Ben Kim gave Louis Sepulveda's squad an easy 25-13 victory.
In the second game, the Steels established momentum, leading to an early 7-3 advantage. Back-to-back aces from Uddhav Kedia ignited a 7-1 run that gave the Cannoneers their first lead of the game. Both sides would trade points until, with the score knotted at 19-19, three successive Steels hitting errors allowed Pratt to gain control. A Hamza Hamdeh ace closed out the game, a 25-21 victory for the Cannoneers.
Trailing 12-10 in the third game, Albi Marke would serve nine consecutive points – including a pair of aces. Culinary would battle back, but Marke's kill off the assist of Patton sealed the game, 25-18.
